Simon started out as an unskilled laborer. He didn’t have any formal training, but he did bring something you can’t learn: dedication, reliability, and a genuine desire to grow. We gave him the chance and he seized it. Today, he is a skilled worker. A textbook success story.

He still looks back fondly on his first day and the opportunity that was offered to him back then. That is exactly what defines us as a company: We see people—not just resumes.

As every year, AFB is committed to foregoing traditional customer gifts at Christmas and instead supporting charitable work with a donation of €2,000. Backesfreunde Manderbach e.V. – Tradition meets future

Part of our donation goes to “Backesfreunde Manderbach e.V.” located in Dillenburg-Manderbach and founded in January 2025. This association and its 60 members have set an ambitious goal. Under the project title “Backes 2.0,” they aim to restore the historic bakehouse at Rathausstraße 1. Their mission extends beyond preserving customs; they are creating a vibrant meeting place for all generations to strengthen the village community.

Elternverein für leukämie- und krebskranke Kinder Gießen e.V. – Suppport that makes a difference

The second part of our donation supports the Parents’ Association in Giessen, which has been standing by families of children suffering from leukemia and cancer for over 40 years. The association funds vital projects that go beyond basic medical care to make the environment on “Station Peiper” at university hospital Gießen and Marburg as comfortable as possible for young cancer patients. This includes furnishing playrooms and parents’ kitchens as well as innovative initiatives like the “AV1 School Avatars”. These small robots allow children to attend school virtually from their hospital beds, ensuring they stay connected with their friends. Furthermore, the association actively funds clinical research at the Justus-Liebig-University to continuously improve the chances of recovery and cure for childhood cancer.

This year AFB Anlagen- und Filterbau GmbH & Co. KG is continuing the tradition of donating the budget for Christmas presents to local associations. The lucky recipients are chosen from suggestions made by our employees. In 2024, the choice fell on two impressive initiatives that  passionately  stand up for young people.

CVJM Stein-Salzburg e.V.

AFB supports the youth work of the CVJM Stein-Salzburg e.V. with a donation of €1,000. This commitment makes it possible, among other things, to purchase a new trampoline, which is a hit at the popular summer camp ‚SOLA Westerwald’. Weekly activities for around 45 children and young people aged 6 to 14 take place – from singing together, telling stories and playing to exciting night hikes. Under the motto ‚Experience community’, the association offers a varied programme that promotes team spirit and a sense of adventure.

TV „Frisch-Auf 1912“ Dresselndorf e.V.

The TV ‚Frisch-Auf 1912‘ Dresselndorf e.V. sports club also received a donation. Coach Nina Otto works with children and young people in various training groups from 6 to 17 years of age. With the aim of introducing children from the age of 10 to competitive sports, the support of the club is an important contribution to the promotion of young talents. In addition to the regular training days, the athletes also take part in training camps every year, allowing them to prepare intensively for various competitions and championships. It is not uncommon for some of the talented athletes to qualify for the (West) German championships.

With our Christmas donation, we want to honour the commitment of these organisations and further strengthen their valuable work for the community. We are delighted to be part of these success stories and look forward to the projects to come.

Maximum power for heavy loads

The 150-420-1880 telescopic fork unit is an innovative solution specifically designed to meet the requirements of an automatic high-bay warehouse for cast iron rollers. The telescopic fork is designed to fit the individual installation situation of the stacker crane, ensuring smooth integration. Special brackets on the upper fork have been used to adapt the device perfectly to the rolls, ensuring efficient storage.

Perfect customisation to individual requirements

Each roll – weighing up to 6 tonnes and measuring 4.6 metres in length – is safely picked up in pairs. Thanks to this design, which is precisely tailored to the customer’s needs, this telescopic fork unit optimises logistics and increases efficiency. The quality and reliability of the product is verified by extensive load testing at our factory prior to delivery. This ensures that the design can withstand the most demanding conditions.

Innovation and precision combined

The development of this telescopic fork unit is an impressive example of how customised solutions can be created. From initial requirements to final acceptance, our designers have created a product that offers both maximum safety and functionality. The telescopic fork unit has been harmoniously integrated into the existing high-bay warehouse system, raising the standards of warehouse technology to a new level.

For one of our long-standing customers, we successfully carried out a complete overhaul of a transfer car with a rotating unit and suspended telescopic fork unit. The retrofit project involved the complete disassembly, overhaul and modernisation of the transfer car to improve the performance and reliability.

Disassembly and transport

Our experienced mechanics first carried out the professional dismantling of the transfer car on site. The complex logistics of removal and transport were fully coordinated by our team to ensure a smooth process.

Technical improvements and complete overhaul

All components were dismantled and analysed at our factory. The mast was fitted with a new guide rail and the original welded construction was replaced by a modern bolted solution. The telescopic fork unit received a general overhaul.

All wearing parts such as wheels, ball bearings, belts, shafts and buffers have been replaced with high quality new parts. After professional surface treatment and repainting, all components were reassembled.

Expert installation and ramp-up

After the shipment back to the customer, our installation team took over the complete mechanical installation. This included coordination of the rail installation, precise integration of the transfer car into the existing system and technical support during commissioning to ensure an optimum start.

Conclusion: Retrofit for longer life

This retrofit project shows how effectively a professional overhaul can increase the life and efficiency of a transfer car. As a result of our retrofit work, the transfer car has been completely overhauled. The customer now benefits from improved maintainability and increased service life.
